Celebrating Her

For the last five years Isabel's birthday has landed on the same weekend as the Strawberry Festival.  A small town festival in our part of town consisting of a parade and then a weekend of fun rides ringing in the unofficial start of summer in this part of the world.  Her due date landed and then surprisingly enough my water broke five years ago on the Saturday of  said parade after a nice long walk that morning.   This year Isabel's birthday landed on that same Saturday.  Since Jason loves to entertain and cook up his favourite breakfast of peanut butter french toast on the morning of the parade we kind of combined the two things and had a great Saturday starting at 8:30 and it lasted until well into the early evening. 

We ate breakfast, walked to the parade, watched the parade, walked back to the house and it was time for an ice cream themed party to celebrate my favourite girl!  The weather stayed quite gloomy for quite some time ... as soon as the sun peeked though out we turned the playground slide into a waterslide which was my only form of entertainment for the kids so I was just as excited as they were once the water fun began.

This birthday will go down as the one Isabel refused to blow out the candles on her birthday cake .. at least in front of the party guests on Saturday.   I guess she didn't feel like being the centre of attention at that moment.  A couple of weeks leading up to her day she mentioned numerous times she didn't want to turn five and at her school she asked her teacher to be sung 'Happy Birthday' very quietly.  

She may or may not be just a tad anxious about this next phase in her little life consisting of a new school and a new teacher and well .... everything will be new starting September.  I'm not going to lie,  I'm a little anxious about this new chapter but we will conquer it and enjoy it together baby girl.  We are so excited to watch you learn all the new things that come with being a 'big girl'. 

This was her Saturday night.  A very tired but happy girl eating her final ice cream of the day surrounded by probably two of her favourite gifts. A new helmet and a little yappy dog which she has asked if we could get for her soooo many times.  My mum gifted it to her and her response when she opened it "I can't believe I got it".  She was one happy girl that night.  I love this photo so much for so many reasons!

I continued the celebration for my birthday girl on Sunday morning with special sprinkle pancakes (and blueberries and strawberries and whipped cream of course) and gave her a chance to blow out her five candles which she happily did.
